Forest Squad Numbers- A follow up


Well, this was meant to be my Premier League predictions post, but given how bad Forest have done with the squad numbers this season, I had to follow up on my opinion from last week. In the end of course, I’ll forgive certain players if they have stellar seasons and see us (finally) back in the Prem. But for now, I’m going to have a good old fashioned whinge.


Tbf, two 1-1 draws isn’t a terrible start to the season, and if squad numbers are all I’m complaining about this season, I’ll be happy (well, my sense of happy).

(My suggested number in bracket)

1.       Costel Pantillimon (1)- No change
2.       Hillal Soudani (22)- Oh dear Oh dear! (RIP Barry Chuckle), I know you wore #2 at (club tbc), BUT YOU ARE NOT A RIGHT BACK! You better not be as useless as a certain other Algerian striker who recently played for us, and bang in the goals and I might overlook it.
3.       Tobias Figuerido (6)- Decided not to change. Not a disaster, but I’d rather a LB wore #3.
4.       Danny Fox (13)- Bit of an odd one this (apart from 4 being an even number!), Surprised Fox has changed after so long, which included previous clubs, maybe to signify he is now definitely a CB not an LB?
5.       Adlene Guedioura (7)- Again, not disastrous. I’d rather have seen someone else wearing this number but if he wants to keep it, let him be.
6.       Jack Colback (15)- I quite like this one. While I generally prefer #6 going to a CB and #4 to midfield, at Forest it feels right for them to be reversed.
7.       Lewis Grabban (19)- Bit of a left field one this. Not what I expected, but not a disaster.
8.       Ben Watson (8)- No change. I said this was the most likely switch, and I was right!
9.       Darryl Murphy (9)- No change. Thought he’d might be too stubborn to switch numbers.
10.   Joao Carvalho (10)- No change. Another one I got right, well it is his position after all.
11.   Ben Osborn (11)- No change. I’m on a roll! Didn’t think he’d change although I know some people wanted him to.
12.   Jordan Smith (33)- Makes sense for a backup keeper, but I think he might go on loan so seems weird to switch him now.
13.   Vacant
14.   Matty Cash (14)- No change. Nowhere else for him to go really.
15.   Luke Steele (12)- Odd choice for a keeper, but I think he wore it at Bristol so may be personal preference.
16.   Vacant- Think this is being kept for Sam Byram.
17.   Ben Brereton (17)- No change. Again, nowhere to go.
18.   Jack Robinson (3)- Seriously! I wanted #18 to go to a winger to emulate Antonio! All due respect to Robinson, but a LB wearing it is hardly exciting.
19.   Diego Gonclaves (20)- Meh, One number out. No problems.
20.   Michael Dawson (5)- Oh Daws, Daws, Daws! I know you wore it at Spurs, but you should have had taken back your #5 shirt. #20 should be an attacking player anyway!
21.   Vacant
22.   Ryan Yates (16)- A shirt with a good record with new players who get promoted to lower numbers, hopefully he’ll kick on to a 1-11 shirt in the future.
23.   Joe Lolley (23)- No change. Seemed a weird choice last season but suits him.
24.   Vacant
25.   Vacant- Nobody brave enough to take on my favourite number it seems!
26.   Liam Bridcutt (21)- Didn’t think he’d keep #7. Think he’s worn it before but tbh I think he’ll struggle to get in the side.
27.   Tendayi Darikwa (27)- No change. Again, not really anywhere to move to since Soudani took #2
28.   Thomas Lam (28)- No change. Might as well keep him there.
29.   Vacant
30.   Vacant
31.   Gil Dias (18)- Appears 31 is his favourite number.
32.   Vacant
33.   Dimitar Evtimov (-)- Been told he’s free to find a new club, appears he’s just been assigned it for the sake of it.
34.   Vacant
35.   Jamie Ward (-)- See Dimitar Evtimov.
36.   Vacant
37.   Vacant
38.   Gboly Ariyibi (-)- Probably going out on loan again, but a bit harsh to strip hos old number (#21), when it is lying vacant.
39.   Apostolos Vellios (-)- Keeping his old number, will probably be gone soon)
40.   Zach Clough (-)- Personally I don’t think he’s had a fair chance at the club yet. Like Ariyibi, lost his number but still vacant, and if he was switching I’d rather he took #35 in honour of the birth year of another certain Mr Clough.
41.   Stephen Henderson (-)- He’s still here?!?!?!
42.   Joe Worrall (4)- Appears he’s waiting for #5 (twitter handle) to be free, or doing a John Terry.

Note- This was written before Forest vs Bristol City, so there are no opinions on the performance in that game. I thought it was going to be different! If I was charge of the Forest squad numbers

THE SEASON STARTS ON SATURDAY!!!!!! Well, another week for you Premier League fans, but for those of us who are still waiting for a Premier League return (Hopefully not for much longer), the return is imminent. Forest have had a pretty decent pre-season, and it’s been nice to see a use of traditional 1-11 in CORRECT POSITIONS for the friendly matches. Even players who had 1-11 numbers last year have switched; Adlene Guedioura wore 8 (last season 5), and Ben Osborn wore 3 while playing LB (last season 11 since he is normally a midfielder but plays everywhere). Looking at the squad, while we’ve had a good transfer window, the Forest numbering needs a bit of a tidy now. For this, I’ve purposefully left the players (Henderson, Evtimov, Mancienne, Ariyibi, Ward, Clough, and Vellios) who’s profiles have disappeared from the website, out of this as they are clearly not in Aitor Karanka’s plans and have been told they are free to leave (although one or two are likely to only b...

World Cup Squad Differences: My Views

So, the England World Cup squad has finally been announced, and I’m not too disappointed to be fair. Southgate chose 19 of the players I would have taken (with one extra on standby), and in all fairness, I can see logic in all four of the differences. Also, two of the players who I considered my bigger calls, in Nick Pope and Danny Welbeck, have made the plane, and Joe Hart has paid the price for bad form over the last few years. But following on from last week, here’s TFC’s views on the players from my squad who missed and who has replaced them. MISSED OUT: Ryan Bertrand (Southampton) I thought this one was likely to happen, and I’m only slightly disappointed Bertrand isn’t being utilised. While he has played well in a poor Soton side this season, a dismal season has ultimately put paid to any chance to his WC dream.
